“We note the ongoing attempts by the Japanese side to present in the media space phone calls of mid-level diplomats of their embassy in Moscow as“ diplomatic protests ”about various events held in our country in the southern Kuril Islands,” the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
As noted, a similar “demarche” was undertaken by the Japanese side on April 2 after Russia notified in advance of “conducting shooting practice in the waters of these islands.”
“Leaving aside the explanations repeatedly given to the Japanese side regarding the indisputability of the southern Kurils of Russia following the Second World War, they are forced to indicate to their colleagues that in the future our diplomats will not accept such“ telephone protests ”as contrary to the generally accepted formats of diplomatic communication,” the Foreign Ministry concluded. .
Earlier, Japan protested because of the Russian shooting practice in the Kuril Islands.
