The attack by retired Libyan General Khalifa Hafater on Tripoli and the internationally recognized National Reconciliation Government raised questions about these forces. The main elements of Hafar's forces are as follows:

First: armed forces of the former regime battalions:
These forces belong to a number of brigades and military battalions led by the sons of the late Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. Its members and field leaders received training courses in 2011 in Russia and European countries.

These battalions and brigades - such as the fortified 32nd Brigade, the Khamis Battalion, and the Muhammed al-Muqrif Battalion - are now led by prominent military commanders of the former regime loyal to Hafter and known for their anti-Revolution positions. They received orders from Gaddafi in 2011 to take part in the suppression of entire cities by shelling and siege of Misratah, Zintan.

The most prominent of these leaders:

- Major General Abdel Salam al-Hassi: the right arm of Hafer and commander of the operations room of the western region, who is currently ordering the forces of Haftar during confrontations with the forces of the National Accord government.

- Major General Al-Mabrouk, Commander of Hafar's Ground Forces Forces, is one of the most prominent military commanders of the former regime and most loyal to him so far.

And in 2011 besieged the city of Zintan and bombardment with Grad rockets, and in 2016 led the invasion of the Crescent oil to control him in favor of Hafter.

- Major General Mohammed bin Nayel: a military commander of the battalions of the former regime in the south of Libya, and after the revolution led armed groups of the militants of these battalions and tribal militants to control the south, but armed forces from Misrata managed to capture him and later released him went to the east of Libya and joined Hafter, To lead the latter's forces to control the southern Libyan.

- Major General Idris Madi: Commander of the Western Military Zone in the structure of the forces of Haftar, belongs to the city of Zintan, which is opposed to the government of national reconciliation and in disagreement with the most prominent military commander in Zintan Major General Osama Ajwili, the current military commander of the Western military region in the armed forces of the Government of National Reconciliation.

Second: armed forces of the former regime battalions (Gaddafi Brigades) and supported by armed civilians from the Tribune of the city of Tarhona adjacent to the capital Tripoli on the south-east:

These forces were similar to the military apparatus of the Al-Wefaq government, but later changed their allegiance and joined Hafer and turned into a support force.

Which surprised the forces of the Government of National Reconciliation on the south-west and south-east of the capital, specifically from the axis of the Valley of spring and Qasr Ben Ghashir, which includes armed civilians volunteer to fight and not regular soldiers.

Earlier, the forces from Tarhuna held an agreement with the military forces of the Al-Wefaq government from the cities of Misurata and Zintan. They declared their neutrality about the division in the Libyan military establishment, but then broke the agreement and declared war on the government of reconciliation.

Third: Major General 106:
It is a military brigade that includes battalions and armed groups from the eastern, western and southern cities of Libya, including members of the current movement. The brigade is equipped with the modern military vehicles and vehicles granted by the UAE to Hefter. It is led by Khalid Khalifa Hafter.

It can be said that this brigade is the largest military force organized controlled by Hafter and lead its leaders and militants with great confidence, and includes a number of militants and leaders of the cousins Haftar of the cities of the eastern region.

Fourth: limited armed groups loyal to Hafter since about five years from the cities of the Western region as Sabratha and Sorman, Zintan and Gharian:

These groups are headed by an armed battalion called the Al-Wadi Brigade Battalion, which includes gunmen from Sabratha.

Fifth: armed groups of civilians volunteers to fight in the ranks of a handful of cities in eastern Libya:

Many of them are from the city of Benghazi and call them "Awakening". Hafar's forces describe these militants as "supporting forces," including those with criminal records and who are involved in war crimes, body and grave searches during armed clashes in Benghazi and Derna.

Sixth: Civil and tribal groups armed from southern Libya:
Including gunmen from the entry stream, some of them loyal to the former regime. These groups are led by one of the leaders of the Haftar forces in the south belonging to the current stream, Massoud Jedi.

Seventh: Armed force from the city of Ijdabia:
Including military and civilian armed volunteers, including armed intervention led by a senior officer named Fawzi al-Mansouri.

Eighth: Intensive armed groups from the city of Benghazi and from the cities of the eastern region:
Some of these groups, some of which belong to an organizational unit of the Thunder Brigade belonging to the forces of Haftar, which takes the city of Benghazi stronghold.

Ninth: armed groups of Chadian and Sudanese opposition:
Previously fought in the ranks of Hafar forces in Benghazi, Derna and Crescent oil.

Tenth: Salafist gunmen belonging to several cities:
Including those who joined the military battalions in the Haftar forces, including those fighting in the battalions of the portal, "Sibal al-Salam", which is based in the city of Kufra in southeastern Libya, and the Tawfiq Salafist battalion based in the city of Benghazi.
