The cyber command of the US Armed Forces conducts the first operation in the computer networks of other countries, which is supposedly aimed at preventing Russia's attempts to “intervene” in the course of the upcoming mid-term elections to the US Congress. It is reported by The New York Times, citing informed official sources.

“The campaign, which includes several missions carried out in the last few days, is the first operation of this kind abroad to protect US elections, including the November mid-term congressional elections,” the newspaper writes.

According to the publication, the so-called "Russian agents" are notified that the American forces have identified them and are monitoring the activities they are conducting.

The United States is at the finish line before congressional elections, recalled Sergei Sudakov, corresponding member of the Academy of Military Sciences. According to him, in connection with this, the authorities need to show the Americans that this time the vote will be protected from “interference”.

“If the United States will be attacked, of course, it will be an“ attack ”either from Russia or from China. The United States always forms a certain security agenda depending on how it benefits them. If they knew that this or that criminal is behind this, then this person would not need a warning that “Big Brother” is watching you. This means that it is a fake story that they sign in their own impotence, ”the analyst explained.

The presentation of warnings by the United States to Russians is an obvious situation on the eve of the midterm elections. This was stated by political analyst of the international monitoring organization CIS-EMO Stanislav Byshok. According to him, Americans should have no doubt that “Russian hackers” threaten to influence political processes.

“Where does a person’s freedom in using social networks end and where does a malicious influence on a country's policy begin?” Until this is determined, preventive measures will be used, such as, for example, sending warnings about suspicions of influence on the political processes of the country, ”he said in a conversation with RT.

According to Sudakov, the Americans are indeed conducting military operations not only in reality, but also in cyberspace.

“Fake story to explain voters their failures. It is very simple: the Democrats won because they were elected by the Russians, the Chinese, and if on the contrary, you can report that we are acting 100%, therefore your votes were taken into account, ”the expert suggested.

Habitual "obscurantism"

At the same time, representatives of the United States Department of Defense did not specify how many Russians calculated and how, and also how they conveyed warnings to them. In a conversation with The New York Times, high-ranking military officials stressed that direct threats against “Russian operatives” were not used.

According to representatives of the intelligence community, this year Russia will not break open the vote counting device and try to fake the results of the vote, which it was accused of earlier. At the same time, allegedly, the dissemination of misinformation will be continued in order to influence public opinion in the United States.

Recall that the US Cyber Command was transferred to combat status in May 2018, after which it was able to conduct regular offensive cyber operations. It was emphasized that the US military hackers must "disable cyber weapons before they are used," and may conduct subversive activities in the computer networks of other countries.

On October 19, the US Department of Justice filed a 44-year-old St. Petersburg resident Elena Husayinova charged with allegedly trying to intervene in the November congressional elections.

According to the American side, she, as an accountant for Project Lakhta, a company associated with Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigogine, who was also accused of “interfering” in the American elections, had tried to influence the “US political system” from January 2016 to June 2018. .

At the same time, the US Justice Department stressed that the prosecution does not contain any evidence that Husayaynova had an effect on the result of the vote.

The situation with accusations against Russia for allegedly influencing the American electoral system has lasted for more than two years. Moscow has repeatedly denied the charges.

In early October, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Washington to end talks on "interference."

“I want the obscurantism to end, due to the alleged interference of Russia in some kind of election campaign in the United States, so that the American elites finally calm down, finally understand each other,” he said.

"Awkward"

The topic of “intervention” was touched upon during the talks by advisor to the American leader on national security issues, John Bolton, who is in Moscow with the Russian side. This was reported by a diplomatic source RIA Novosti. According to him, the conversation on this issue was transient.

“Once again, it was felt that US officials are touching the topic clearly“ for a tick, ”feeling awkward because they are not able to provide any real evidence of such conjectures, but are forced to work out“ political order ”in view of internal inter-party clashes in Washington” - he said.

At the same time, he noted that Bolton did not even mention the name of Husainova and claims to her by the American special services.

“This is understandable, given the obvious absurdity and ridiculousness of the charges against the chief accountant of the Russian Federal News Agency in the intention to change the outcome of elections in the United States,” said a diplomatic source.
