The heads of the CDU and CSU unanimously decided on their program for the European elections on May 26 at a joint session. The 22-page paper has the motto "Our Europe is strong - for security, peace and prosperity". Guideline is the commitment against the threat of the EU by Populisten from left and right as well as against nationalists.

CDU leader Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer has called for Europe not to become a plaything for foreign powers. You need a strong and united Europe, so that the US or China alone could not determine the global rules of the game, she said at the presentation of the election program.

Important issues of the future are a common foreign and security policy, the protection of the external borders and a common response to migration throughout the world. At the same time, the Union rejects in its program proposals by French President Emmanuel Macron. (Read more here)

In the election campaign, it is about doing everything so that the common candidate of the CDU and CSU, Manfred Weber, could become President of the Commission. At the European elections in late May, the Union wants to be "by far the strongest force in Germany". The goal was also to continue to make the largest group in the European Parliament with the conservative EPP, said Weber. "And we want to rule Europe."

In order to achieve this goal, the CDU and CSU want to express their unity with the joint election program. After fierce clashes last year, particularly with regard to migration policy, Kramp-Karrenbauer and CSU leader Markus Söder also described the decision of the joint election program as a sign of new harmony between the sister parties.
