The African Union has given up sending a delegation of heads of state to Kinshasa on Monday, as it had announced. In a recent statement, several members of the organization, including its current president, Rwandan Paul Kagame, had called for the "suspension" of the proclamation of the final results of the presidential election in the DRC and expressed "serious doubts" about the provisional results. But ignoring the validation of Felix Tshisekedi's re-election on Saturday night, the Constitutional Court of the DRC took them by surprise.

Several sources within the African Union speak of a " canceled " mission. But according to the official statement issued by the AU commission this Sunday, it is only a postponement. It was only at the end of the day that the pan-African organization issued an official statement evoking " a postponement of this mission " without announcing a new date.

" The African Union Commission takes note of the proclamation by the Constitutional Court of the Democratic Republic of Congo of the final results of the presidential, national and provincial elections of December 30, 2018, " the AU said in its statement.

The AU delegation was to be led by its current chairman, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and AU Commission Chairman Chadian Moussa Faki Mahamat.

AU members had called on Addis Ababa to suspend the proclamation of the final results on Thursday, ruling those of the Congolese Electoral Commission (CENI) in favor of Felix shisekedi tainted with " serious doubts ".

Several African countries had already congratulated Félix Tshisekedi on Sunday, including South Africa and Kenya.

" The Commission reiterates the continued availability of the African Union to accompany the DRC in this critical phase of its history, in solidarity with the Congolese people, " the AU continued. " The Commission calls on all actors to work for the preservation of peace and stability and the promotion of national harmony in their country ".

A report will be submitted to the AU summit in February 2019 " on efforts undertaken in solidarity with, and in support of, the Democratic Republic of Congo, " the statement said.
