Tunisians commemorated the eighth anniversary of the fall of Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali on Monday. Numerous anonymous people roamed the symbolic artery of the country, the Bourguiba Avenue closed to traffic, in memory of January 14, 2011 which saw the end of the dictatorship and the birth of a long process towards democracy.

Political parties and trade unions have made an appointment with their supporters who rub shoulders with other citizens, just came to commemorate this day when everything has rocked.

Abderrazak, a young retiree, could not miss an exit on Avenue Bourguiba today.

" I, personally, was there that day. This is a process that has had a significant impact in the Arab-Muslim world , "he says.

Many people remember the last hours of the regime, then the new Constitution and the first free elections.

The atmosphere is good-natured, near the big central podium where local artists succeed. Salwa Rikli, in her forties, has come with friends and knows that the road will be long.

" We are in the early years of learning democracy. Certainly, there are problems but that will not make us back down. We are proud of our freedom, "she says.

Despite the sensation of a revolution too slow to change a difficult daily life , thousands of Tunisians took the time to move to the heart of Tunis. Like Ahmed, who came for his 6-year-old daughter, Amira, whom he wears on his shoulders.

" The process of revolution, until now, is not over. In my opinion, it takes another twenty years and another generation, "he says.

A new stage in the democratic process must be held before the next anniversary of the revolution. Legislative and presidential elections are scheduled for the end of this year.
