The Association of Ligurian Aid to the Mentally Handicapped and Inadequate (Alahmi) has just transformed one of its buildings into a nursing home. A significant change that allows it to accommodate fourteen additional residents.

"It was an obligation. The Loire Association of Aid to the Mentally Handicapped and Inadequate (Alahmi) has just renovated one of its buildings, and welcomes fourteen new residents to Chemillé-en-Anjou.

If Yves Branger, its president, evokes a necessity, it is at the same time because the building was dilapidated, but also because the association could increase its capacity of reception.

Made up of fourteen rooms, this nursing home (FAM) allows to free places in other specialized centers, including medical-educational institutes (IME), all complete in Maine-et-Loire.

Twenty jobs created

The reason ? An amendment, named Creton, allows residents to stay until they are 20 years old. "People who are in FAM live longer, which means that people stay longer in IME, and do not free up space," says Yves Branger.

They are fourteen new residents in the new building of the Alhami, including six from outside. "Fourteen families finally have a solution ," says Alain Dolley, general director of the association and initiator of the extension project. These are also twenty jobs created. There are always more professionals than residents. "

A € 1,250,000 project

Two years old, the project amounts to € 1,250,000, co-financed by the Department and the regional health agency. It marks the end of the work. Indeed, each of the buildings of the association has undergone a recent renovation.

From now on, the Alahmi looks for new forms of work to develop. "Like home care" , gives, for example, the director of the premises.

Already, a unit for specific disorders, which require particular vigilance, has been opened on the EMI.
