In Burkina Faso, President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré has appointed, Monday, January 21, Christophe Dabiré, Prime Minister. Former Commissioner for Trade, Competition and Cooperation of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), Christophe Dabire is an economist. He replaces Paul Kaba Thiéba, who resigned from office and his government three days ago, after about three years in office.

He is presented as a man of experience and an economist. Its objective will be to revitalize the government's action, often criticized for its immobility. However, the appointment of this former Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP), party of former President Blaise Compaore, surprised more than one in Ouagadougou.

Under Blaise Compaore, Christophe Dabiré was Minister of Health, from 1992 to 1997, then of Higher Education, from 1997 to the year 2000. Member of the CDP for ten years, he notably held the position of President of the Finance Committee of the National Assembly, from 2002 to 2007.

" This gentleman, I had completely forgotten him. Nobody had thought of him, "admits a Burkinabe politician who wonders how this appointment will pass in the MPP, the party of President Kaboré.

" Once again, the Prime Minister will not be from the ruling party. This may create some frustrations, "says a close to the head of state.

" Christophe Dabiré was chosen for his credibility. We are going through difficult times with the almost daily attacks of jihadists. We must revive the government's action while maintaining some continuity, "he adds.
