An Austrian elected official was forced to resign after publishing a "poem" in which he likened migrants to "rats". This elected deputy mayor of Braunau-am-Inn, Adolf Hitler's hometown, was a member of the FPÖ, Austria's far-right party in power in a coalition with the conservatives. A party embarrassed by yet another scandal.

In this text, published last weekend in a local FPÖ journal, migrants are compared to "rats". A text presented as a poem by its author, Christian Schilcher, Deputy FPÖ to the Mayor of Braunau-am-Inn, the hometown of Adolf Hitler. The publication of this text coincided with the 130th anniversary of the dictator's birth on April 20, 1889, in this small town in Upper Austria.

The discovery of the document quickly provoked a national outcry. " Profoundly racist " in the eyes of Conservative Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, who demanded explanations from his partner. It is finally the leader of the FPÖ, Heinz-Christian Strache, who announced on Tuesday that the defendant elected had renounced his mandate and membership of the party.

But the opposition is far from convinced. For the scandals accumulate for the FPÖ, which is criticized in recent days for its links with identity, a group of extreme right targeted by several investigations. The FPÖ defends itself from all nearness but here again, the opposition is not convinced.
