According to Lavrentiev, the number of Syrian refugees, who are currently outside their homeland, has reached almost 6.7 million people.

He added that the largest number of refugees in the border with Syria is in Jordan (about 1 million people), Lebanon (more than 1 million people), Turkey (3.5 million people).

"I'm not even talking about those refugees who are on the territory of European countries," the diplomat said, stressing that such issues are being discussed in consultations with UN representatives and representatives of the delegations of the guarantor countries.

As previously reported, the Russian Foreign Ministry expects that the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees will take a representative part in the international meeting in the Astana format, which will be held in Sochi on July 30-31.
