In Algeria, the list of "powerful" who are interested in justice is growing. Two new personalities - and not least - are targeted. They are Mohamed Loukal, finance minister in the current government and a very close friend of the Bouteflika family, the former head of the police, Abdelghani Hamel. The two men were summoned by justice on Monday, April 29, for separate cases and came out free.

The Algerian justice was interested this Monday, two strong symbols.

Abdelghani Hamel, summoned by a judge of the court of Tipaza, is a very close to Abdelaziz Bouteflika. The former boss of the police had indeed been fired last year, following accusations against other pillars of the system, but he had never before been heard by the courts. According to public television, he is now suspected of illegal activities and trading in influence.

According to the newspaper El Watan , he is alleged to have obtained 14 000 m2 of land in this region of Tipaza located 60 km west of Algiers. These agricultural lands are officially attributed to his sons.

Abdelghani Hamel came out free. No charges have been laid against him, but this hearing is only the first, according to the official press agency (APS).

The other symbolic summons is that of an official still in office, the current Minister of Finance. Former Central Bank governor Mohamed Loukal was heard by the Algiers public prosecutor's office over suspicion of squandering public funds. His summons had been announced by the court at the same time as that of former Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia.
