The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced its intention to introduce smart technologies in the operation of taxis of all types, including electric and hybrid fuel and battery combined.

Khalid Al-Awadhi, Director of Automated Collection Systems at Emirates NBD, told Emirates Al-Youm that the vehicles from inside are similar to any other vehicle. However, the Authority has made modifications to them and introduced techniques on its system to be operated independently according to the standards adopted in the field of self-driving vehicles .

Al Awadi added that the vehicles will be operated according to high standards of safety and safety, because it monitors the path from which it moves on four sides through the system «GPS», and sensors surrounding the laser vehicle, which enables it to monitor any foreign object at 40 meters to slow down speed gradually , And stops completely if a nearby object appears less than two meters away.

He said that the vehicle will be tested for three months at Dubai Silicon Oasis starting next month, but not for the public. "In the light of the results of the experiment, it will gradually experience with the public before mid-year, Next ».

"The number of self-driving taxis will be determined at a later stage and will be commensurate with achieving the target of self-driving flights, in line with the emirate's Smart Transport strategy, Total flights in Dubai by 2030 ».

Al Awadhi also signed an agreement with the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSO), under which the two parties will be committed to enhancing the concept of smart mobility in the emirate and assigning routes for the self-driving vehicle in the Oasis area.

The Smart Vehicle can be described as a non-driver mode of transport. It can walk without the need for a human element to drive it, and can be ordered through smart applications, such as "on-demand buses" operated by the Authority to serve passengers in less demand areas on public buses.

The vehicle is designed in partnership with Dubai Silicon Oasis and DJ World for robotics and artificial intelligence applications. The vehicle includes cameras and sensors to read the condition of the road, control the vehicle and avoid collisions with any object. The self-driving taxis contribute to the integration of transport systems by facilitating the mobility of commuters, namely Metro and Tram Dubai, to reach their final destinations.
