Four female students at the Higher Colleges of Technology in Sharjah have created a device to limit the speed of vehicles on external roads by taking photographs and analyzing them through Matlap's mobile application, which determines the speed of the street and alerts the driver of the vehicle at the specified speed of the road.

Alia Al Ali, Fatima Al Raisi, Mariam Al Zarouni and Meaad Al Baloushi told Emirates Today, "Our goal of this innovation is to reduce accidents, make driving more enjoyable for drivers, and maintain their safety by ensuring that the maximum is not exceeded. For the speed prescribed on the roads, which avoids exposure to accidents and irregularities ».

He added that the "speedometer" alerting vehicle drivers at specified speeds gives them the opportunity to focus on monitoring the state of the road, rather than looking for speed plates, and the device will emit a driver's alarm when the speed limit is exceeded.

The speedometer is made up of a camera, which is connected to intelligent computer application. The speed of the vehicle is compared to the picture taken on the speed of the street, to notify the driver of the vehicle at the specified speed by issuing an alert sound.

The innovation includes a camera and a controller that picks up the traffic lights for analysis and sets the maximum speed, so that the driver can adjust its speed.

The students explained the method of operation of the device, it depends on the use of image processing to capture traffic speed and analysis, the console receives images from the camera and alert the driver according to the maximum speed of the street, and then send a signal to the car to adjust the speed, and then can control this speed by using Automatic brake, or speed alarm to inform the driver of exceeding the speed limit.

The students noted that they participated in the project in the «Science Thinking 2019» organized by the Emirates institutions in Dubai during the month of February, and was praised by the Evaluation Committee.
