The social protest of the "yellow vests" brings with it its lot of references to the French Revolution. And there is one that brings us directly back to this fundamental period: the establishment of "notebooks of grievances" in 3,000 to 5,000 communes, intended to collect the word of the citizens for the "great national debate" which begins January 15 . In this new episode of the series "In the heart of history", produced by Europe 1 Studio, Fabrice d'Almeida takes us in 1789, at the time when were written these famous notebooks.

At the end of the 18th century, the situation in France is critical. The coffers are empty, the deficit is widening and the power of the King is weakened. More than an economic crisis, we are witnessing a political crisis. To try to get out of this situation, the nobles urge Louis XVI to convene the States General. What is done August 8, 1788. A historic decision, the last convocation went back more than a century. Soon, nearly 1,200 deputies from the clergy, the nobility and the third estate gathered in Versailles to try to resolve the crisis that cross the country.

They are the delegates of a word collected in the famous notebooks of grievances. What did the 60,000 notebooks of 1789 contain? How were they written? In what way did they serve the Revolution and how do they echo today's situation? Dive into the heart of this decisive moment in our history, just before the revolutionary changeover, thanks to the specialist of Europe 1.
