Welcome to The Morning @SPIEGELONLINE .
Today, Rachelle Pouplier accompanies you to the day until 9 o'clock - here you will find the author on Twitter.
The most important political topics of the day can be found compactly in our briefing DIE LAGE.

4/16/19 4:01 AM Ecuador has become the target of more than 40 million cyber attacks following the arrest of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. The attacks on websites of public institutions had come, inter alia, from Germany, the United States, Brazil, the Netherlands, Romania and Ecuador itself, said the Deputy Minister of Information Technology and Communication, Patricio Real. According to the information, the websites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Presidency, the Central Bank and some ministries and universities were particularly affected. Information was therefore not stolen in cyber attacks. Assange was arrested at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London last Thursday after seven years. The government in Quito had previously suspended political asylum for the 47-year-old Australian, who is considered a public enemy by many because of the publication of secret US documents. Hannah McKay / Reuters 4/16/19 3:59 AM Good morning, dear reader! Nice that you are here this Tuesday morning. They were also horrified by the pictures last night: one of the historic landmarks of Paris, the Notre Dame, was ablaze. Cautious all-clear signal tonight: The fire is under control, the total destruction could be prevented. But there are big damages. But more on that. We also look to Ecuador and political Berlin.
