Washington is ready to support the people of Nicaragua and Cuba, if they want to achieve a "favorable political situation." This was told by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in an interview with Telemundo.

During the conversation, the journalist brought Pompeo to the issue of Nicaragua and Cuba, adding that we are talking about the steps that the United States took against “non-democratic regimes”.

“Many people in Nicaragua and Cuba say:“ Will you help us after this? ”Asked Pompeo in an interview.

“Yes, the administration of President Trump has helped and will help (people. - RT ) not only in Venezuela, but, of course, in Nicaragua and in Cuba,” the US Secretary of State replied.

Pompeo expressed the hope that the people of each of these countries "realize that there is no need for authoritarianism imposed by the yoke."

The Secretary of State counts on the fact that citizens "will make their efforts, their goodwill and their humanity in order to achieve a favorable political situation in Venezuela, in Nicaragua, and in Cuba."

Earlier, on the political situation in Nicaragua, US National Security Advisor John Bolton spoke out. According to him, the days of the head of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, are "numbered."

“The Ortega regime sentenced three leaders of farmers to 550 years in prison for participating in protests in 2018, when Ortega police reportedly killed 300 activists. As President Trump said Monday, Ortega’s days are numbered and the Nicaraguan people will soon be free, ”Bolton wrote on his Twitter.

It was reported that the ortega’s police forces reportedly killed 300 activists. As the President of the Trump said Monday, he will be free.

Thus, the United States violates democratic principles, says military political scientist Andrei Koshkin, head of the department of political science and sociology at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.

“The US tried to make a coup in Venezuela, but it didn’t work. Now we have taken a thorough and, regardless of any public opinion, they simply create their lawlessness, violating all the principles of democracy, ”said the expert in an interview with RT.

States appoint a pro-American leader and prepare the conditions for dismantling the regime in Venezuela, said Koshkin.

“Nicaragua and Cuba are also objects of close attention for dismantling political regimes and creating conditions for external control,” the expert says.

One can argue about the change in the trajectory of American foreign policy, said Konstantin Blokhin, a leading researcher at the Center for Security Studies, RAS, in an interview with RT.

“The United States will play a more active role in Latin America and, most likely, will gradually move away from the“ game ”in Eurasia, which is becoming increasingly difficult to control,” the expert believes. According to him, the United States is "returning" to the western hemisphere.

"This activity is partly an isolationist idea ... Immediately they (USA. - RT ) will not go to Cuba and Nicaragua, it is clear that Venezuela should become the first, they" run in "and look at it, and then go to Cuba and Nicaragua", - suggested Blokhin.

“We demand respect for the norms of international law”

The conversation of journalists with the US Secretary of State about Nicaragua and Cuba took place in the context of the discussion of the political crisis in Venezuela. Recall, on January 23, Venezuelan Parliament Speaker Juan Guaido declared himself acting president of the country. Guaido was supported by the United States and several other states. Russia and China expressed support for the legitimately elected leader of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro.

On February 23, the opposition has scheduled the start of the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Venezuela. The Maduro government intends to prevent humanitarian aid from entering Venezuela. In particular, for this purpose, the legal authorities of the country decided to block three large bridges connecting Venezuela and Colombia.

“We demand respect for the elementary norms of international law from (President of Colombia - RT ) Ivan Duque, so that he ceases his vile actions and ceases to provide Colombian territory for actions ordered by (President of the United States. - RT ) Donald Trump against the right of Venezuelans to live in peace and sovereignty, ”RIA Novosti quoted the words of Venezuelan Vice President Delsi Rodriguez.

In turn, Pompeo claims that the United States intends to take advantage of the “invitation” of the self-proclaimed Venezuelan President Guayido to deliver humanitarian aid.

“The American people responded with a huge amount of help, which is located near Venezuela. Tomorrow, at the invitation of President Guaido, we will work to deliver assistance to people who need it so desperately, ”the Secretary of State told Telemundo in an interview.

Note that on February 22 the first batch of humanitarian aid to Venezuela was delivered by Russia. The Moscow Ambassador to Caracas, Vladimir Zaemsky, stressed that the delivery was carried out in a strictly depoliticized environment on the basis of "free technical cooperation" through the World Health Organization.

"Reasons for intervention are sought"

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that in the case of the transfer of humanitarian aid from the United States, on February 23, it is a provocation by Washington that could lead to a violent confrontation and the removal of the legitimate government of Venezuela.

“The development of events in Venezuela has come to a critical point, everyone understands this. A dangerous large-scale provocation is scheduled for February 23: the crossing of the Venezuelan border by the so-called humanitarian convoy, incited and led by Washington, fraught with a clash of supporters and opponents of the current government and forming a convenient excuse for the military action to remove the current legitimate president of the country, ”said the official spokesman Maria Zakharova.

Political analyst Alexander Asafov, in an interview with RT, noted that efforts to maintain US foreign policy in Latin America have intensified.

“This is largely due to the fact that, despite the opinion that Latin America is under the control of the United States, it has come to the realization that it is leaving the influence,” the expert noted.

According to the expert, reports of the death of civilians and the statement of Pompeo create confidence in the preparation of military intervention.

“It is not yet possible to say whether there will be an intervention, but it’s absolutely certain that the reasons for it are being searched for, scenarios are being worked out - it is quite likely,” continues Asafov. He noted that reasons and rationales are sought for intervention, including for the population of the United States.

“Of course, this phrase is often remembered that every US president should have his own small victorious war,” the expert concluded.
