EU countries should be ready to transfer brexit for a long time, said the head of the European Council, Donald Tusk.

“During my consultations on the eve of the EU summit (21-22
Martha. - RT ) I will appeal to the leaders of 27 countries
be open to long extensions (Brexit Dates - RT ) if the UK deems it necessary to rethink
its Brexit strategy and build a consensus around it, ”Tusk said.

According to the preliminary plan, the procedure for leaving the UK from the EU was to begin on March 29. However, the parliament rejected the agreement with Brussels, which was put forward for discussion by Prime Minister Theresa May, and then refused the “tough” Brexit - exit from the EU without a deal - under any conditions.

On Thursday, March 14, the parliament is likely to vote in favor of extending negotiations on Brexit terms with Brussels.

According to British media, the outcome of the March 13 parliamentary meeting indicates that Theresa May lost control of the Cabinet and the Conservative Party.

According to The Telegraph, when Parliament approved the amendment, according to which London will not be able to start the Brexit process without a deal in the future, May called on members of the Conservative Party to vote against the final document containing this provision. However, five of its ministers abstained, including Amber Rudd, Minister of Employment and Pensions.

As a result, the head of the Cabinet was defeated. 321 deputies voted for the document, 278 against.

Also, the British edition reports that there has been a serious split in the Conservative Party.

“The Tories were on the verge of an open war: in their spring address (to parliament. - RT ), Finance Minister Philip Hammond proposed an alternative Brexit plan. He stated the need to "work out a way to achieve consensus ... on an agreement that we can collectively support." This comment was more like a call for compromise with Labor than support for May’s efforts to try to get conservative consent in parliament and hold a third vote on it, ”the author of the article in The Telegraph notes.

Variants of events

According to the expert of the International Institute for Humanitarian and Political Studies, Vladimir Brutera, May found herself in a very difficult situation.

“May should either fire the ministers or resign. There is no way out of this situation, unless Britain announces a withdrawal from the EU. Because otherwise everything will be reduced to the fact that Brexit will never happen. Either this will happen on March 29, or never. Because if, during a vote, the parliament postpones the exit of Britain from the European Union, this will lead to the fact that no decision will be made, ”the expert believes.

According to him, if we continue the debate, this will lead to nothing, because the accumulated contradictions are quite serious.

“It all comes down to the fact that May, a part of the government, the opposition and the majority who voted for leaving the European Union, will be in fairly incompatible positions, and this is likely to lead to early elections,” Bruter stressed.

Recall that in January, Theresa May’s government overcame a vote of no confidence in parliament with a minimum margin.

Earlier in Europe, they regretted the decision of the British Parliament to reject Brexit agreement. According to Bruther, Brussels is not ready to make concessions to London.

“Europe will not make concessions. Europe is ready to agree with the postponement of the exit date only if Britain provides the arguments for this and a formula that differs from the current one. Neither one nor the other does not exist. Britain may delay the exit, but cannot explain why. And this seriously complicates the situation for May, who has to make some decision, ”explained the RT expert.

According to Brutera, earlier in the European Union they clearly indicated their position. Thus, the head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, has repeatedly said that the agreement drawn up by the EU authorities, together with May, is not subject to revision. A similar opinion is held in Berlin and Paris.

“I don’t see what else can be changed in the brexit agreement,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in December last year. “Of course, you can still talk about additional guarantees, but all 27 member countries (EU - RT ) express a common position.”

And after the British Parliament rejected the agreement on March 12, French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated that the EU would continue to insist on the same terms of the deal.

“The withdrawal agreement cannot be revised,” said Macron.

According to Vladimir Bruter, May was unable to cope with the situation and is now at an impasse.

“We can say for sure that May’s stupid, inconsistent policy has led the country into a terrible dead end. And a good or even a normal way out of this impasse simply does not exist, ”believes Bruter.

The political scientist also notes that a second Brexit referendum could be held in the country.

“The second referendum on brexite is possible. Only, I think that May will not appoint him. In this case, the parliament will not appoint him either. In order to declare a referendum, it is necessary that early elections be held, Laborites win and declare it, ”the expert concluded.

Note that on March 13, during the discussion in parliament, Theresa May stated that in the event of a second Brexit referendum, there is a risk that the UK will not secede from the EU.
