At least 300 cars were burned on Saturday after a fire broke out in a parking lot during a government-run air show in the southern Indian city of Bangalore. No one was injured. India's NDTV news channel quoted an official source as saying " The fire was caused by a burning cigarette thrown on grass in an open field.

"The fire at the Aero India 2019 show has spread rapidly due to dry grass and strong winds," said MN Reddy, head of fire services in the city.

Thick black smoke billiards are seen rising from burning vehicles near the Yahlanka Air Base, where about 100 aircraft are available to take part in the biennial event.

The Indian Ministry of Defense said an investigation had been opened to find out the cause of the fire. Reports said the air show was suspended temporarily as the fire spread and no aircraft took off from the base until the fire was extinguished.
