Severe frosts will come to the territory of the European part of Russia in the coming week, as cold arctic air will flow. This was stated by RT by the chief specialist of the capital’s weather service, Tatyana Pozdnyakova. She also stressed that at night, under high atmospheric pressure, the temperature will be lower than during the daytime hours.

“We are really waiting for a period of cold weather. We expect that in the middle of the week the air temperature at night will drop to -15 ...- 20 ° С, daytime will vary from -10 ° С to -15 ° С. This is below the climatic norm by almost 5 ° С. But one cannot say that these will be abnormal frosts, ”she stressed.

At the same time, according to her, by the standards of the current winter, this would be a rather “significant wave of cold”. The meteorologist also did not rule out that last year’s weather scenario would repeat.

“At first, one anticyclone froze us, then it again shifted to the southeast, we got a little warmer, and the next one came with a new wave of cold. Most likely, this winter the processes will evolve according to the same scenario, ”noted Pozdnyakova.

As Anatoly Tsygankov, Deputy Head of the Situation Center of Roshydromet, added, the cold snap began on Saturday, January 19th.

“Tonight in the region it was -15 ° С, in Moscow -11 ° С. This cold will persist, will gradually increase. In the north-west, closer to Petrozavodsk frost up to -20 ° C, closer to Arkhangelsk to -32 ° C. Behind the cold front, the cold will continue to come to us. On the night of Wednesday and Thursday it will be -15 ...- 18 ° С, in some places up to -20 ° С. At the same time, on the night of Wednesday, according to calculations, perhaps the thermometer columns will drop even to -27 ° C in the northern part of the Moscow region, ”he said in a conversation with RT.

According to him, the coldest week will be the night of Thursday, January 24th, after which the frost will begin to subside.

“It turns out that the coldest period is until Thursday-Friday. This is a small cooling of five days, then the heat will try to go back, ”explained Tsygankov.

In most parts of Central Russia, true Arctic frosts will be established, also noted on the website of the Meteovest portal. So, in the first hours of Monday, January 21, a cold atmospheric front, accompanied by "intense charges of snow and gusty winds, will begin to erupt into the region." At the same time, due to the North Atlantic cyclone, “unhindered access to the Arctic air” will open due to the North Atlantic, which will lead to a decrease in temperature in Moscow.

"On Tuesday and Wednesday, the temperature background will reach the bottom of the frosty well, most of European Russia will be in the bag of Arctic cold, the probability of precipitation will be reduced to a minimum," the report says.

Meanwhile, in the second half of the week, Atlantic snow cyclones are activated, which will gradually return the average daily temperature to the climate norm.

It should be noted that according to the forecast map posted on the website of the Hydrometeorological Center, in some regions of the Central Federal District, on Sunday, January 20, a “yellow” level of weather danger due to strong wind was announced. The warnings affect Moscow and the Moscow region, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Vladimir, Kaluga, Tula and Ryazan regions. In addition, in the Belgorod region the “yellow level” was imposed due to fog.

"The degree of intensity of hazardous phenomena: yellow - the weather is potentially dangerous," - explained in a statement.

In this regard, the Ministry of Emergency Situations extended its own emergency warning with a recommendation to motorists, because by the end of the day “winds are expected to increase in gusts of up to 17 m / s, snow, blizzard and ice”.

The ministry called on drivers to reduce their speed, avoid sudden maneuvers, and also park the vehicle away from trees and poorly fortified structures.

The chief specialist of the Phobos weather center, Yevgeny Tishkovets, also noted in his Facebook that, under conditions of transient charges of snow, visibility on the roads could deteriorate to three or four kilometers.

At the same time, the Moscow authorities called upon residents and guests of the capital to use public transport in unfavorable weather conditions.

“It will be very slippery on the roads. If you need to go somewhere, please be careful driving. Or just take the subway or bus, ”the message says in the transport complex of the capital.
