Ivan Vygovsky was executed on March 26, 1664 by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Historians believe that his actions became the prologue to the period of unrest and civil strife known as the Ruin.

He tried to curry favor with the king of the Commonwealth in order to receive the same privileges as the Polish nobility, but fell victim to his own intrigues and was shot by those whom he served in the last years of his life. According to experts, this historical figure, who repeatedly betrayed his oath, provoked a brutal civil war on modern Ukraine.
