Katja Hoyer's book "Diesseits der Mauer. A New History of the GDR« sparked a fierce debate in Germany.
Hoyer: "I think it's wrong to look at life there exclusively from the point of view of the unjust state" Hoyer spoke for her book with people who were neither opponents of the regime nor supporters of it. The author is also concerned with no longer seeing German history primarily as West German history, says SPIEGEL columnist Sabine Rennefanz.
