Ukrainian writer Jan Taksyur spent five months in jail on suspicion of treason. He was persecuted by the Kiev authorities for dissent and sympathy for Russia.

In August 2022, he was released on bail. Earlier it was reported that more than a thousand pro-Russian political prisoners are held in Ukrainian pre-trial detention centers and colonies. There was also information that the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine accused the commander of the Ukrainian marines who surrendered to Russia in Mariupol oftreason.
