UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for the UN Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to be prevented from shutting down. The US and several other Western countries announced they were suspending its funding.

They motivated their refusal to support the UN structure with the emergence of information that a number of UNRWA employees could allegedly be involved in attacks on Israel carried out by the Hamas movement. According to experts interviewed by RT, by accusing the agency of involvement in the Hamas attack, the Israeli side is also trying to offset the reputational costs associated with the UN court's decision on the claim of genocide in the Gaza Strip.
