The visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Cairo ended nearly 10 years of estrangement between the two countries. Observers believe that this visit opened promising cooperation and spread an atmosphere of optimism.

It also came at a pivotal moment of regional tension, in light of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, to constitute support for Egypt’s position in the face of Israeli threats to Egyptian national security. The two presidents agreed on the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and to calm tensions in the West Bank.
