US and China hold working group to discuss maritime security for the first time in about 2 years and 4 months. The working group is a form of defense dialogue between the United States and China that was suspended after then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in August of last year, and was restarted when President Biden and President Xi Jinping met in November.

The latest talks will discuss issues such as the safety of air and sea operations, in light of the fact that there have been a number of cases of U.S. and Chinese military aircraft and ships approaching each other abnormally in the South China Sea and East China Sea.
