The Supreme Court of the United States on Thursday rejected a map of electoral districts drawn in 2021 by Republican elected officials in Alabama. By a narrow majority of five out of nine justices, the temple of American law refused to further unravel the great civil rights law of 1965.

This bill, the Voting Rights Act, was passed to prevent former segregationist states from disenfranchising African Americans, but has been gutted by the high court in recent years. The decision, which therefore maintains the status quo, also requires Alabama Republican authorities to review a map drawn for the House of Representatives.
