Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was less than half a percent short of an absolute majority in Turkey's presidential election. According to the electoral authority, the incumbent president won 49.52 percent of the vote.

There will be a run-off election on May 28. Erdoğan received 800,000 more votes than in 2018 – but 4.7 million more voters also registered. Abroad, almost half of the eligible voters went to the polls (49.40 percent). Here, however, Erdoğan received well over half the votes (57.70 percent)
