Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also ahead in the presidential election, according to a news agency close to the opposition. After opening around 87 percent of the polls, Erdoğan was on Sunday with around 50.6 percent, just ahead of his challenger Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu with 49.4 percent.

The head of the electoral authority, Ahmet Yener, had previously urged patience and called for waiting for the final result. The state agency Anadolu saw Erdoğan ahead with around 52.9 percent.
