Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson made a secret visit to Caracas in February. He met with Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro to discuss the Ukrainian conflict.

Johnson also negotiated the terms for normalizing relations between Caracas and London, which does not recognize the Maduro government. They talked about holding “fair and fair’ presidential elections in the Bolivarian Republic this year and de-escalating tensions with Guyana. On February 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived on a visit to Venezuela, where he met with Maduro.
