A French start-up, Terratis, will set up a mosquito farm of several thousand square meters. It should open by 2028, in the Montpellier region, after the creation of a pilot next year.
The tiger mosquito is an invasive species, not a species that was conventionally found in France. The sterile insect technique (TIS) was demonstrated last year on Reunion Island by researchers from the Institut de recherche pour le développement. They showed that it reduced the fertility of tiger mosquitoes to 60%.
