The Swedish Transport Administration has been planning for a new railway station close to the city centre in Kiruna. Consultations are now being held for the new station and railway route.

A total of seven kilometres of new railway is also needed to connect the station location with the Ore Railway. Still, it is not clear who will pay for the construction of the station, which is expected to cost up to $1.5 billion. It will most likely be a question for the government whether it will be state-owned company LKAB or the state authority Trafikverket.
