U.S. admits that its actions during the Cold War caused three incidents of radioactive contamination.

Radioactive contamination, its effects will remain for a long time. In the 1960s, the U.S military reportedly built a small nuclear reactor in Greenland to study the feasibility of installing nuclear missiles there. The reactor was found to be highly radioactive, and the radioactive cooling water it left behind was buried under the Greenland ice sheet and will remain contaminated until 2100. In 1966, two U.s. Air Force planes collided over the Spanish town of Palomares, causing radioactive debris to fall into the area and causing nuclear contamination.
