The United Nations may vote on a humanitarian ceasefire resolution in Gaza, but the United States threatens to veto it. To be passed, a UN Security Council resolution requires at least nine votes in favor.

The United States, Britain, France, China and Russia cannot veto it with one vote. The U.S. ambassador to the U.N. believes that this draft may jeopardize the "sensitive negotiations" aimed at promoting a moratorium on the conflict. The draft resolution was proposed by Algeria more than two weeks ago.
