The Sudanese Foreign Minister is in Tehran for the first time after the resumption of relations. In January 2016, during the rule of former President Omar al-Bashir, Sudan severed its diplomatic relations with Iran.

Observers indicate that the recent change in Sudanese foreign policy trends may be an effort by the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to obtain support in the face of the commander of the Rapid Support Forces. Recently, Bloomberg quoted high-ranking Western officials in a report that Iran had provided the Sudanies army with Iranian “Muhajir 6” drones.
