The second round of local elections began in Tunisia on Sunday morning. This round is devoted to selecting one of the candidates who did not receive a majority of votes in the first round held on December 24 last year.

The number of candidates is 1,558, including 160 women. Only 11.84% of the number of voters registered on the electoral lists participated in first round, which prompted opposition parties to consider it “a farce that must be stopped.” Since July 25, 2021, the country has been witnessing a political crisis, when President Kais Saied began imposing exceptional measures.
