Danish police say the search zone is a well-functioning tool for fighting gang criminals. But the fact that the police are allowed to stay without special suspicion has also been criticized.
Many believe that this means an increased risk of people of foreign origin being treated negatively. In December 2022, the government and the Sweden Democrats stated that they had taken a decision to investigate the possibility of search zones following the Danish model. The highly-prioritized investigation will be reported no later than 22 January 2024.
