Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili says open borders with Russia are important for the republic, including for economic reasons. Russian President Vladimir Putin said the day before that he personally decided to open direct flights with Georgia.

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, who also holds the post of Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party, said that he considers the opposition who oppose the restoration of direct flights to be hypocrites. The government's duty is to help the Georgian people everywhere, whether inside or outside the country.
