Brazil's Lula da Silva and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskiy were scheduled to meet on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan. The two leaders said their preoccupation prevented them from meeting.

Lula has been pushing for peace talks and has suggested his country mediate alongside other "neutral" countries such as China and Indonesia. But he faced criticism last month when he said the U.S. should stop "encouraging war" in Ukraine.
