On February 8, 1949, a storm rose on the beach of Sables d'Olonne. The water boils in the middle of the two rock faults which form “the Pit of Hell’.

It was exactly at this moment that the children of a summer camp who were passing by saw a wicker trunk then, with amazement, a lifeless body, at the bottom of the fiery precipice. Investigators then noted tire marks from a car at the end of the path as well as traces of a trunk. The body was undoubtedly dragged inside the trunk, before being thrown into this 'Pit of Hell'
