In the province of Valladolid, 17 kilometers from its capital and in the heart of the Hontanija Valley, is Wamba. The origin of this place name dates back to the year 672: "The noble Wamba is chosen as Gothic monarch in this place as successor of the previous one, Recesvinto, who died in these places" The church of Santa Maria is one of the few Mozarabic-style churches that are preserved in Spain.

At its center is the tomb where the Gothic king Recceswinth is believed to be buried.
