Nakba novels are distinguished by dealing with realistic and quasi-historical material. Novels that deal with the Nakba fall within the framework of colonial and post-colonial narratives, says Muhammad Ubaidullah.

The novel recalls in a poignant way the Deir Yassin massacre, one of the most famous massacres committed by the Zionist gangs in the 1948 Nakba War, he says. The war of narratives in this context is another war fought to impose the correct narrative and to confront the enemy’s false narratives, he adds.
