The Justice Committee of the European Parliament approves prohibiting amnesties for embezzlement crimes in the new directive. The amendment introduced by the Portuguese MEP Nuno Melo and the Spanish Javier Zarzalejos has received the support of 43 members of the parliamentary committee, compared to only 17 against.
The result of the vote does not directly imply the ban, because this parliamentary commission will now have to open a negotiation with the European Council to determine how the directive will finally be.
