Jeffrey Hinton, one of the "godfathers of artificial intelligence," recently announced that he had left Alphabet after a decade at it. Hinton is among a growing number of tech leaders who are publicly expressing concern about the potential threat posed by AI.

"I don't want to underestimate the value of climate change, and I'm not saying you don't have to worry about it, that's a big risk too," Hinton said in an interview with Reuters. "With AI, it's not at all clear what we need to do"
