The first American ship is on its way to the eastern Mediterranean to provide aid to Gaza. President Joe Biden had announced during his State of the Union address last Thursday that he had issued instructions to the US Army to establish a temporary port on the Gaza coast.

UN bodies and humanitarian organizations also criticized the step of airdropping aid into the Gaza Strip, as they considered it limited in size, in addition to what it might cause. The construction of the floating port and shipping expenses would cost tens of millions of dollars over several months.
