The DRC obtains an additional 5.8 billion in the “contract of the century” with Chinese companies. Chinese companies which had paid only $1.2 billion in 15 years will have to pay nearly $6 billion over the next 20 years.
The expected billions, according to the government, will be invested in the construction of roads of national interest. The Democratic Republic of Congo produces more than 70% of the world's cobalt supply. The metal is essential component of batteries and is considered key to the transition to renewable energy.
