Anti-system candidate of the PASTEF party Bassirou Diomaye Faye is announced as the winner of the presidential election in Senegal. Amadou Ba, the government candidate, congratulated him and acknowledged his defeat.
Macky Sall, the outgoing president also congratulated him. This is the first time that an opponent has won in the first round in Senegal and the national electoral commission has until Friday to publish provisional results. The results will be validated by the Constitutional Council.
