The Central Reserve Forces (CRPF) appeared last Saturday south of Khartoum in white cars with weapons installed, marking a return perhaps to a role that disappeared in time of need. For many days, the Sudanese Ministry of Interior has not provided any explanation for the absence of the police and even the civil defense forces.

The CRPF are semi-combat forces trained to resolve tribal conflicts, and participated in the war in the Darfur region (west of the country) during the rule of President Al-Bashir.
