The "alleged leader" of the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group was "neutralized" on Saturday in Syria in an operation led by Turkish intelligence services. The alleged head of Daesh, whose code name was Abu Hussein al-Qurachi, was neutralized in the operation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

The operation was carried out by Turkish secret services in Syria, Erdogan said in a television interview. The Turkish president added that the operation is being expanded to include other countries in Syria.
