Thailand could become first Southeast Asian country to recognize same-sex marriage. Thai MPs voted this Wednesday, March 27, by a large majority in favor of legalizing same- sex marriage.

The text marks an important step forward, but must still pass before the Thai Senate before its final promulgation by the king. The procedure could take several more weeks, or even months. “This is a huge step for our country,” said Mookdapa Yangyuenpradorn, spokesperson for the human rights group Fortify Rights.
