At least 29 people were killed Tuesday in a fire that broke out in a nightclub located in the basement of a 16-story residential building in Istanbul. In addition to the deceased, one injured person was still hospitalized in serious condition, according to the governor's office.

Most of the 12 seriously injured initially announced have gradually died despite being transferred to hospital. The fire broke out during work being carried out in the nightclub, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül told reporters. According to the private television channel NTV, five people were arrested on site.
